Southwestern Minnesota State University mieści się w Marshall w stanie Minnesota i bierze udział w NCAA Division II jako członek Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Drużyna koszykówki mężczyzn Mustangs gra swoje mecze u siebie w Marshall Event Center. Program koszykówki mężczyzn ma bogatą historię, zdobywając cztery mistrzostwa NCAA Division II National Championships (1991, 1995, 2008 i 2010) i sześć tytułów NSIC (1990, 1991, 1994, 2003, 2008 i 2011). Aktualnym trenerem drużyny jest Brad Bigler, który jest na stanowisku od 2014 roku. W składzie zespołu na sezon 2022-23 wchodzi 10 zawodników, a wśród nich czterech absolwentów. Mustangs rozpoczęli sezon 2-0, pokonując Winona State i Sioux Falls.
